  • 99 EGR to 2000 UIM

Is there an adapter or combination of adapters I can get to connect the EGR in my 99 Grand Am to a 2000+ UIM?

  • #2
No, you just use a 2000+ EGR. Connector is the same.

You'll need the exhaust flex tube that goes to it as well.

        What about the IOC sensor?

When swapping from an older UIM(only one I could find) to a new engine what do you do about the IOC sensor? This is the one above the TPS sensor on the TB. On the newer UIM there is a cutout for the air to flow, but the older UIM doesn't have this. Any ideas?? I was thinking about a spacer 1 inch thick the exact shape of the new TB gasket (with cutout). Think this will work? Where could I find a machine shop to CNC this part? I live in Tacoma WA. Thanks!

        Oh yeah, I am talking about a 98ish UIM from a 3400 SFI to a 2001ish engine.

IOC? IAC? this will help http://60degreev6.com/forum/gallery/....php?i=714&c=7

Some TB's have it cut out, some don't. A few mins with a die grinder will fix that...

Why using the older intake? you broke the new one?

Yeah! I learned the hard way not to put gasket sealer and a gasket and torque this F#$% to 18 ft lbs. By the way is that right? 18 seems too much for the UIM. Went to local u-pull-it and all I could find was a 98 era motor. Went today to get the EGR pipe and I didn't have the right wrench. That sucker will not come out with Channel locks. Anybody got a 3400 UIM 2000+ they want to sell?

I ended up buying a new EGR pipe from www.parts.com. The one I received was a genuine GM part. Installed new EGR gaskets, new UIM gasket. For the TB I ground a channel into the intake and used the 2000+ gasket. She started up, but is surging at idle. Goes from 500 to 1000, maybe I didn't grind enough for good airflow? Will investigate further. Thanks for the help!

sounds like it needs an idle re-learn. Disconenct the battery for a while, sometimes the computer needs to re-learn the position of the IAC motor.

I've never had my 3100 have to re-learn the idle from an IAC change. It resets the IAC when you shut off the car, sometimes you can hear it "click" after you shut off the car.

                    I've swapped between 3100 & 3400 TB's, and 3100 and LX5 65mm TB's and it fired up and idled perfectly each time.

I would guess that the IAC is sticking or that your air path is not big enough. Take the TB off and grind it like in my picture there. That's the easiest way. Spray it down with brake cleaner first and use masking tape and paper towels stuffed in the ports to seal off the metal shavings from getting everywhere. Then grind, then blow them out, take off the tape and paper plugs, blast it with air, then brake cleaner, then more air to make sure all the shavings are out.

I've got a misfire on cylinder 2 (bad injector) and a bad 02 Sensor (See other post in pushrod Mx). It's been idling pretty darn good, but when I take it apart I'll grind the TB some more to give it a bit more flow. Thanks for the good advice!
