It is not a constant journey for the crank gear to spin around. 6 evenly spaced combustion events are the source of energy and the crank sprocket is attached to the cam sprocket, which is on a different set of pressure variables for which the crank must act against. The bigger the cam/springs and the more powerful the combustion, the more abust the chain takes.
Hard launches and faster shifts take their toll on the chain. Driving style is a large factor to longevity at any performance level.Ben
