  • DOHC Valve Springs

I saw the DOHC valve springs in the store. Do they fit the 97 Z34 heads? How about the 95 heads? I'm assuming that they can help with valve float at higher RPM and high boost. What else is needed to make them work/fit? I think over the next few months I'm going to slowly start collecting parts to build up my 97 engine. Thanks.

I was wondering the same, but if you plan on using you stock cams then I dont think they will do a whole lot. I just looked online to get some springs and they are 8$ a piece. That aint cheap, so I called gm and got a part number, then headed over to gmpartsdirect and entered 24503417 and 110 shipped. Thats what I am going with and seeing as I needed them yesterday I hope they ship soon.

New stockers are weaker than the originals. The store springs fit all 3.4 DOHC engines. I use the comp steel retainer and the stock keepers, with the 4.6 SOHC spring seats modified to fit around our stock seal.

It will help with higher RPM, or with regrinds/boost. Its quite a bit more seat pressure and 16# more than the original 3.4 DOHC springs.

96 springs are 65/165 or so, and 91 originals were 80/180. These are 126/~197. They also allow more for lift than stockers if you do get regrinds.

Thats what I was saying if you do a regrind on the cams then they will work good but on a stock car they probably wont do a whole lot. I had my cams sent to crower in cali and they fucked me over, they were going to charge me 110 a cam. So i sne the money and the cams and 2 months later they still did nothing, i told them a basic regrind and they never were able to do it. So doing a regrind on a 3.4 is very hard to do. But making a 3.4 into a race motor is not the best thing as there are weaker parts of the motor that they dont have upgrades for. Like the crank or rods. I would say that 400 max with all the possible upgrades would be the most of of a 3.4, but what the fuck do I know.

Thats nice. boosted 3.4 DOHC is around 400 whp already with the stock crank. You can modify the 3500 crank if you want but I don't know of any breaking from too much power. Rods you can get but they are forged steel stock. I don't know where you are coming from on this at all.

I can get the 3.4 DOHC cams reground. Not sure on cost but it would be around 110 each. I have cams here that can be ground or supply your own.

Thank's Ben. I just ordered the valve springs, retainers, and a crank scraper. I'd like to rev the motor as high as possible with the new turbo and am planning on trying to run over 20 psi...
