  • Coatings available for ported heads

I have pricing now for the combustion chambers and the valves for the pushrod heads. I can do the same for DOHC but it will cost more for valves, but I don't have any port options available for them yet.

$125 for the combustion chambers, and $75 for the valves. I will find out what its rated for and brand if I can. Its gold color though and is tough as hell. It also does an amazing job with heat. We tested it with a torch and it didn't do anything to the piston we coated.

I'd imagine this would help to reduce knock retard especially on boosted and HC applications by reducing combustion chamber temps??

It actually increases your exhaust temp gas temp out the head but helps insulate the head from the heat so not as much goes to the coolant. Its the hotter exhaust gas that helps. It would be best to coat the headers as well. I can also get pistons coated. I think ill knock my pricing down some as well. 175 for chambers and valves.

have u found any headers to coat? cuz i would really like to see what they do. i just got mine from ss and got them uncoated to make sure everything went in nice and easy, and i had a bung welded on the back collector to get O2 readings from both banks instead of just 1, plus itll help when i get the wideband o2, but i want to get them coated now, or get another set, have the ones i have now coated then sell the other ones.

No, and any headers I could have coated must be new (never used on a running engine). I have seen him coat the tubes on 5hp briggs engines and those look great, but its not as complex as a set of V6 headers either.

ok well then i would just have to change my plans a little and but another set from ss, have the bung welded where i want, and have them coat them then. oh well, so the only thing the coating would be good for is headers that arent used...or you dont think ur guy would be able to coat the v6 headers very well

He tried a set off an old V8 that were rusted up and it didn't turn out well. I wouldn't try to coat anything other than new (not concerned with welding, just running an engine with them on it).

so i know there isnt any tests yet, but which do you think would be the better choice, this coating, or the one from ss themselves, cuz im also looking at an offroad pipe to switch out with the cat pipe for drags, with an electric cutout where the cat used to be

Why not just send what you have to JetHot, Airborne, or one of the other main coating places? That's all S&S does anyway (I think they use HPC).
