I've been looking into the 3x00 swap. Recently I ran into engine issues and had to replace a head gasket. I planned on doing the swap around spring break, but since I have the block naked I though about jumping into it. I wanted an opinion on a few things before I start it though.
I've got most of the parts for the swap, heres what I have and what I believe I need
Have:
3400 heads
3400 upper and lower intake
fuel rail/injectors
coolant neck
need:
headers
pistons
two sensors
ECU
push rods from 3.1 91 cavalier
I literally pulled the entire upper from an 3400 Impala so I do have all the small things. Now is it true you can use the ECU from a 3.1 Cutless and the tuning is dead on? I'd probably postpone it till Spring break if I had to use Mega squirt.
Pushrods- I also read that the 3.1 cavalier's pushrods will work in the swap. Most people have said I'd need custom pushrods, and that's it, no measurements or anything.
My last question is, is there absolutely anything I can do to avoid changing pistons? I'd really like to avoid sending it to a machinist shop if possible. If I have him change out my pistons I'd probably have my bearings checked/replaced. I have no plans on boost for this motor
My motor has 130K miles on it, all but one piston are at 210, other is at 180/190 so I don't thing I'm in dire need of new rings. I don't mind swapping them but I really need to figure out what I'm doing soon as this car is my daily driver and is in 15 pieces, so if I need to have the pistons swapped I need to hurry and send it to my machinist
Thanks for the input
