  • Malibu Down....HELP

I posted here a few months ago about my 2000 Malibu that developed a leak in the coolant recovery tank and got hot on a sweltering summer day. It had 147000 original miles on it. I replaced the motor with a newer 2001 3100 that had just 34000 original on it.
It has never ran well enough to even get up to temp...things keep going wrong for one reason or another. Most current problem is no fuel being delivered to the throttle body...probably due to a bad fuel pump or a bad relay or a bad filter or a bad fuel pressure regulator. I do not know and cannot diagnose it because my 17 year old son worked on it last and has lost the keys.
I went to the dreaded dealership today and had a new key made via the VIN number and it works everywhere except the ignition...meaning the previous owner had the tumblers changed.
How do I remove the older key unit to have a new key made if I do not have a key?
There MUST be a way! The car does NOT have the dreaded security system...the key does NOT have a sensor in it and the after-market stereo has never left me stranded....
Wife had to cancel our trip to Vegas because I cannot make this thing run...what can I do? Lock smith can make a new key in a day and a half for about 30 bucks...if I can remove the lock and take it to him...or I could replace the lock for $18...if I could remove it.
    Help me out!

I hate to say it, but most of the time you need the key in the cylinder and the cylinder turned to the On or Run (sometimes ACC depending on the maker) position for the cylinder to come out. You may need to bust the cylinder and tear the guts out, but first I would look around for a hole with a peg sticking in it from the cylinder. When the cylinder is in the correct orientation with the key in it, it will slide right out. If you can find the right spot where that locking peg is and drill it out, you may be able to get it out without any damage being done, other than drilling the peg out. What sucks is I don't think all lock cylinders have the locking peg/hole exposed, but hopefully it is on the Malibus.
