the more research I do the more I like this 3x00 swap.

And let me tell you I've been reading just about every thread ever concerning the swap on many different sites (tgo,cfv6,ftv6 etc.)

This is going to be a walk in the park and should produce lots of power after it's tune properly.

Most of the people who have done this swap with the l32 did so without tuning and lots ended in giving up because of some driveability issue or running uber rich. But I've got the ability to tune unlike most of them.

Not to mention that few of them were using 3500 heads but rather 3100 and 3400. After seeing the flow sheets I'm convinced...

that this thing is going to scream.

Found my answer about the head exhaust diamater:

"1 5/8's primaries will work. I double chacked the measurements on 3500 heads and they have a max radii of 1 1/2". This means the inside diameter of the primary has to be at least 1 1/2" . If the headers have a 1 1/2" OD, then the ID is 1.4" (little over 1 3/8's) or so depending on the guage of steel used"

Now i just need to see what my pacesetters are...

Darn, looks like my pacesetters have a diameter of only 1.5"

could I still make it work?

We're only talking about .10" less than what it should be.

It's the RK sport headers that are 1.75" wide.... damn.

I need someone to tell me if I'll be OK running a 1.5" header primary on an exhaust outlet that is 1.5"

So the bad news is that the pacesetters will not quite be wide enough to encompass the exhaust port 100% of the way but the good news is that having it so is apparently better than having such a large primary opening with the RKS headers. Therefore, I'm sticking with the pacesetters, slotting the holes, and then getting some good header gaskets.

            OK, here is something interesting.

I'm trying to figure out the fuel rail.

I know I have to use a 3400 rail because of it's fuel return design and I'm hoping it will fit into the 3500 LIM (can someone confirm this?)

As of right now it appears a 3400 fuel rail will come with 22.5lb/hr injectors running @ 55psi. Now I don't think that's enough fuel for how much power I'm hoping to put down and since I can tune for bigger injectors I'd might as well get some.

So here are the current questions:

            1. Will the 3400 fuel rail fit the 3500 LIM?
            2. What kind of injectors should I look for that will be bigger than 22.5 that will directly fit into the 3400 fuel rail? For instance, did the GT's come with larger injectors that will swap over easily?

            Finally, and most importantly...

I need to figure out a way to adapt the 3400 fuel rail metal lines to that of my firebird. I believe they are both "quick connect" design so that shouldn't be a problem but will the simply connect to my current lines? I think there is some extra slack in them (they are flexible) so it won't be a problem if they are closer to the intake. However, I was looking at some pics of a 3.4/3.5/l32 hybrid (what I'm doing) and found this :

Now from what I've seen of the stock 3400 fuel rails this is NOT stock connector rails. However, I could be wrong. It almost looks like he took the old rail parts off the 3.4 fuel rail and transplanted them onto the 3400 fuel rail.

Would that even be possible? Or is this just a pic of the stock 3400 fuel rail setup (which in turn, looks like it would work fine)

            thanks!

edit: looks like these injectors sould fit the bill... 26# @ 55psi http://wot-tech.com/shop/all/28-injectors/prod_283.html

Stock 3400 are 19# @ 43 psi. You can't make them 28# without running too much pressure for them to function properly. They are 21.4# at 55psi, so not enough fuel. Get a set of trailblazer injectors and be done. They are 23.5 @ 43 psi, and will hit 28 at 62 psi. If you go boost, you will want 36+ lb injectors. Probably not boosting with high compression though (looks like you are going for 11.5+).

Yeah, for now boost is out of the question unless I changed pistons. I will try to find some trailblazer injectors (I'm assuming from 2000 +), but I thought the 3400 fpr was set up for 55psi stock? And since I will be using the stock 3400 rail & fpr shouldn't I be looking at the injectors rating at 55psi?

the injectors I listed from your site were listed at ~ 26# @ 55psi so unless I'm missing something I'm assuming those will be ideal...

Yup, those are about 26# at 55psi. That will be a good size for what you are doing.

                      Here's an easy one.

Will the stock IAC and TPS sensors I have now in my 3.4 be a direct swap into the stock 3400 throttlebody?

Or will I have to get new sensors?

And if I do have to get new sensors, will my stock 3.4 sensor connectors fit into the new 3400 sensors?

I hope that question makes sense.

I hope I can answer a few of your questions...

The 3400 fuel rail will fit the 3500 lim properly, at least it did on mine.

I have 3400 injectors on mine with an adjustable regulator, but if you can get your hands on the TB injectors, then you should get that, and an adjustable FPR.

Thats all based on my experience with L32, 3400, and 3500 parts...

The 3.4 and 3400 share the same connectors for the TPS and IAC controls, so you should be good there

that certainly does answer my questions, thank you!

The above mentioned injectors should suit me well since the stock 3400 fuel rail runs @ 55psi. That means I shouldn't need to buy an adj. fpr unless the stock fpr is corrupted in which case I might as well upgrade.

26.2 lb/hr should definitely be enough for what I'm doing. If not, I will buy an adj. fpr and up the pressure to make them 28# just in case we need some more room to grow.

Glad to hear the 3400 rail will fit fine on the 3500 LIM, and that my stock sensors AND connectors should swap over without issue.

                          thanks again

                            EASY questions for you guys...

                            1. What is a good spark plug to buy for the 3500 heads?

                            2. Will my old 3.4 thermostat work in the 3500 waterneck? Or will I need to buy a new one? If so, where can I buy one? looking for 180* (summitracing?)

                            3. Where can I buy new LIM/UIM/TB bolts for the 3400/3500 parts ?

I believe the gasket kit Ben sells comes with LIM bolts (but not UIM or TB bolts). I would run a stock stat and would buy a new one. I mean, with the new top end, what's another $7? The reason I say stock temp is I've been told years ago that running a low temp stat will accelerate cylinder wall wear, and can possibly mess with the ECM depending on how low you go with it.

What's the point of being able to adjust my radiator fan turn on temps if I don't have a lower than stock t stat?

I've run 180* for years and it's fine. I think when people start going to 160* it gets controversial.

I still need to know if the thermostat I have now will fit into the new waterneck or if the 3500 takes a different one.
