i'm working on strut tower replacement, not the fun side but needed for sure... My swap slowed down for the birth of my son but it's moving along slowly. My goal is to be done by July then work on upgrades by next year.
My 3500 plenum has 4 bolts in a horizontal rectangle, 3.5" across, 2.75" down. Nothing like yours.
Congratulations on the new addition. Much more important than cars!!

Pic? Starting to wonder if you got a 3500 VVT instead of a 3500...

          Must be a VVT 3500.

That would be my guess as well. Got a picture?

I'll send one soon. I sure hope not (VVT). What should I look for on the engine for VVT?

                Brian,
There are many differences but the most easily spotted are the VVT engines have a housing extending from the front of the timing chain cover where an actuator is mounted. This controls the VVT function and is missing on non VVT engines. Also, intakes on the VVT 3500s have a V shaped notch in the end opposite of the throttle body.

The other really easy way is to look at the plenum. The VVT one has the indent by the PS pump, whereas the non-VVT is just straight across on that end.

Thanks for the pix. I definitely do not have VVT - no notch, no activator.
I thought all 3500's would have the 4 bolt TB. But then, what do I know? I'm a newby!

Guess we'll need a pic of your plenum then...

Yeah, very strange that your 3500 upper isn't like every other one I have seen. The one I posted the pic of is 4 bolt.

Attached are a couple of pix from today. Note that the pattern on my plenum is canted only about 10 deg. Distance L-R is about 3.5", down is about 2.75".

I am with brad on this, that adapter should fit.

Please explain what did not line up.

No matter which way I tried to line up the holes for the adaptor to plenum, they did not line up.
Since then I've been to the recycle yard, brought home a 76mm TB from a '97 Prism (3.8?). Is that too big? Lines up with my plenum save one hole.

The old listing of 60 deg. V6's in Wikipedia does not list (that I saw) cars with 3400 engines. I saw bunches of 3100's at P-A-P, no 3400's, alomost no cars newer than '01's. Before I go to E-bay, I'd like a sure list of 65mm TB's w/o ETC. The '04 Malibu TB has no IAC so I can't mod it for cable drive.
                                Thanks to all
