Can anyone confirm that the below pictured a/c bracket is the correct a/c bracket for my application (that is for bolting up a 91 dohc a/c compressor to an 06 LX9)? The bracket pictured is from a 95 3100 Lumina.

I just want to be 100% sure before I take CNCguy up on his very generous offer! Does it come with the turbo too marc? :P

Can't get rid of that... it's my wifes new hair dryer and she would kick my ass. I am going to start on a turbo setup for 60V6 MGs. We have a couple of customers who are wanting to turbo their 60V6 MGs. One has a 3400, the other is a 3500 and both are fairly quick as is but, like most everyone else, they are wanting more.

The below are the pics of the LX9 block. The bracket and the block don't look like a perfect match to me... thoughts? Am I going to be doing a lot of cutting/welding to make it work? Hope not!

As you can see the outside of this motor is rather cruddy! I have a lot of cleaning to do to remove oxidation on the aluminum and surface rust on the pulleys.

pcguy covers the mount in his thread in the pushrod performance section. If you go into the thread, at the top of the 1st post on each page, there is a "Search This Post" tab. Click on that and enter search terms like AC bracket or dogbone mount and see what comes up.

                    • Thanks Brad. I did a quick search like you recommended and saw a few relevant posts. I'll check it out in depth later.

My guess at this point is that I'll be elongating some holes on the bracket. Worst case is I am cutting and welding to make it work.

                      • hold off on that AC braket. you will not be able to mount it correctly. you will need a '96+ compressor with the '96 torque strut brace( simial to the ac braket) and '96 ac lines. there is a control valve held in with a snap ring on the port side of the compressor, you can swap vavles with your R12 compresser so that the pressures in the ac system will be correct and will cool corectly. You can refill the system with Freeze 12, R 12 replacement.

                        • Oh well... it is already on the way. CNCguy is a genorous guy and I only paid cost of shipping on it so it is not a big loss.

Is the issue that my compressor wont bolt to that bracket or that the bracket won't bolt to the LX9.... or both? If it is both I will likely try to see about making a custom bracket. If it is only one then I might try to do some cutting/welding to make this bracket work.

I really didn't want to have the system evacuacted since my existing R12 blows like ice and swapping compressors, lines etc will drive costs up.

Other than the bracket issue I see two other potential obstacle. One being the LX9 exhaust manifold that dumps downward - I'm going to have to fab a 180* bend so that may get in the way of the ac lines. The other obstacle could be the oil filter adapter if it is located in a different spot may not clear the ac lines. I think I will be OK on the oil filter adapter since the LX9 adapter looks 'shorter' since it does not have the water/oil cooler like my DOHC. I might try to find a junk 91 DOHC compressor to use in an effort to mock up a custom bracket. If I use the DOHC rear mount, the pushrod lower mount I think I can get away with 1 dogbone mount to the radiator support.

                          • Remember if you disconnect AC lines, you must hook it to a vacuum for a minimum of 30mins and add the gas back in while it's under vacuum.

                            • ...Well from what I see, the bracket wont bolt up completely I dont think....you might get 2 holes on the block and the one on the head with the locating dowel but not the lower bolts. Maybe you could chop the bottom half off and run with 2 block bolts that the stuff up top, just get 10.9 bolts. Also I think if you get exhaust manifolds from a minivan 3500 you can run the exhaust like a GEN3. In fact I think GEN3 manifolds will bolt up but you might have to hog out the insides. For the oil filter, I think you can use the fitting from a GEN3 and screw that on just fine, and discard the adaptor. Run a PF47 or PF52 oil filter. If you want to try to find an oil cooler, Police spec luminas and some minivans will have them. Oh also an oil pressure sender froma '93 Grand Am 3100 will be something youll want for your gauge cluster. replace the oil pressure switch with that.

                              • I can't believe you know this stuff off the top of your head!

I'm going to try to 'recycle' as many sensors, wiring, etc off the LQ1 as I can. I'm going give the engine harness a thorough check and rewrap.

I'm going to try to adapt the a/c bracket and see where it leads me... trying to find a junk compressor to use in the mockup.
