LOWERING SUBFRAME
Secure engine with support beam.
Support subframe on the passenger's side with a jack.
Loosen passenger side subframe bolts several turns -- there is 1 front and 1 back bolt.
Move jack to driver's side. Confirm subframe is well supported and completely remove both subframe bolts.
Loosen torque on lower transmission bracket to engine mount nuts. (2)
Begin the process of lowering engine, transmission & subframe enough so transmission cover can be removed from the wheel opening. (A scissor jack can help control lowering of the subframe.) Lower engine support J-bolts, lower subframe until bolts are starting to take the load, loosen J-bolts more, etc.
Keep checking clearance of hoses, A/C plumbing, wiring, accessories, etc. during the lowering process. Ensure exhaust tube is not binding or supporting the engine.
Once transmission is low enough draw up all slack with the J-bolts in the engine support beam. Lower the subframe more so that you can access the lowest 4 bolts in the transmisison. You may need to carefully back out the passenger side subframe bolts a few turns. Confirm that the subframe isn't being supported by the driver's side strut, etc.
