Help with a tune
Hey guys, I'm an old member haven't been on at all lately because the car project fell to the wayside for financial reasons, but now I'm trying to put some life back into this project. Ben had built me a sweet 3400/3500 about 2 years ago, after the engine was in the car it wasn't running quite right, so I took the car to get tuned figuring that would clear all issues. Long story short the tune didn't fix things, and months down the road I discovered that the main culprit was a broken solder connection for a fuel injector. I since have fixed that, but as the car was tuned basically running on 5 cylinders, it is now running very rich, and will struggle to idle but eventually choke itself out and die. Years have pased since the tune, and the shop that did it is no longer around. The car isn't reliable enough to drive to a shop to get it tuned which I can't even find one in my area. A fellow member name AaronGTR came out and gave it a shot once with a software program he used before the injector issue was repaired. I don't recall what program it was, but that would be the ticket if I could get my hands on something like that. Any other suggestions are appreciated, this is the only thing keeping me from driving this car.

The cheapest option I can think of for now is buy another used PCM on ebay that matches your car.
it will...
1- Bring you back to stock settings so you can atleast drive it to a shop
2- Rule out a failing PCM
They are often found cheap used.

I was wondering what happened to you and you may be interested to know that I have moved to Pompano Beach, FL
I can tune it if we can get the car here. I use HPTuners for OBD2 tuning.
I think its been closer to 4-5 years now hasn't it? I have only built 1 motor, so it has to be the 12.4:1 setup using 3.4 DOHC pistons. Can't remember your name right now, John asked and I am drawing a blank
I wondered what happened to you and the car.

Yeah I'm still around, the car fell to the wayside, had a serious relationship, bought a house together, remodeling the house & repairs, yada yada yada. Thank god things didn't work out
. The car has been on jack stands the last few years.
I'll go out once in a while to turn the car on and get some fluids moving, but I'm afraid that's about the most action it has seen.. My name's Eric, but I forgive you man. I was as giddy as a school girl when I saw you were still around as it has been more than a few years. Glad business had been treating you well. Anyways I live up in Hernando County, a bit north of tampa, so it's a bit of a haul to Pompano Beach, but I have a car dolly, so one of these weekends if I can get my hands on something to pull this car with I'd definitely make a trip down there. Still haven't touched the transmission on the car, but hopefully the tax man will be nice to me this year and I can get this monkey off my back.

A stock tune on a built motor with high compression, larger injectors and cammed will run worse.

Eric! Yes, and I remember your last name too now
John made a good point to me, we can probably drive out there and tune it rather than haul the car down here. Would be cheaper, just need to figure out when we can do it.
Is the transmission slipping bad already? You need something to handle the power, so a 4T65 swap or a built 4T45 are the only real options short of a 284 manual swap (good luck).

It certainly isn't the best option. I didn't realize it was modified that far. I guess the guy is gonna have to source a custom tune.

Whatever works for you Ben, it's probably close to a 4 hour drive, tho I can offer you gas and a stocked bar for your troubles
whatever else you guys want. Would you believe me if I said there is probably less than 100 miles on the motor? The trans is still holding up, but if I recall last time I put the pedal down for testing the tranny was kinda like omfgwtf shifting 1st to 2nd. It's useable at the moment but I do have 4t65E engraved in my memory for the replacement. Before I get it back on the road I need new tires as the ones on there are getting sidewall cracks & tag/reg/insure another $500 >
My main goal is to just get the ball rolling on this project again but it all starts with a tune. Tax returns are a well needed shot in the ass for this.

We need tires to tune, and tag/reg/insure would be a very good idea. If the trans is working still, I can tune it to hopefully work a little better as well

Mr. Common Sense
Say Ben.....do you think the tune in my car would help him to limp to the shop?
It's not high compression, but if you recall I do have a cam and 28# injectors.
I'd like to help if I can.
