Don't know if it was mentioned above, but you cant use the LX9 balancer with the external crank trigger. I believe I used a 3400 balancer.

you can use the external trigger on the LX9 balancer, fits perfectly fine. I can get pictures if you want.

OK, I assume you mean the sensor and balancer that came with the LX9? There are no notches/teeth on the back to trigger the sensor. Also the LX9 sensor is a 3 wire sensor; the ODB1 coil pack/ICM uses a 2 wire sensor. My other option is to get a crank pulley and sensor from a 3100 or 3400. Comments?

as long as the LX9 has the pre-visions for the blue 24x sensor that mounts towards the inside of the 3400/3100 balancer, if not you need a timing cover aswell, is this a RWD or FWD setup?
-
It is a RWD. I plan on using the front cover from my 3.4 ('94 Camaro/GMPPC HT3400). I am going to be using ODB1 with a harness and ECM from a '94 Cavalier.

It is also keyed just like the crank so you can't put it on the wrong way.
