It is everywhere in that corridor, but not in the exact area where the accident happened.

    Yes.
    He's a dumb punk.
    yes.
    he's lucky to be alive.
    yes, maybe.
the firebird is a tin can. Better then a Nissan 350Z, chevy aveo, or cobalt in crash tests.

No, speeding was not the culprit in this. A moron with poor judgment was.

"Speed kills!" was a slogan used in the 60's meaning the DRUG! Not high speed travel in a car.

I have traveled all of the world and driven on multiple high-way systems. I cruise over 100 MPH on a daily basis and break speeds of 130 MPH, but I have specific "clear" areas of operation to do the bursts. Better driving classes, like getting people to actually remember what flashing to pass means. Maintaining cruising in RIGHT lanes and passing on LEFT being enforced. High speeds will reduce highway injuries, cars tend to slide rather then coming to abrupt stops.

Check the data, Germany's autobahn has more population per square mile and less deaths and injuries then the US. Which means their freeway is busier then ours, little to no speed limits, and their system is safer. The interstate was designed for travel over 100 MPH.

But I get too far off point. Again, the kid was a moron, But a blue hair doing 50 MPH in the left lane is just as much as a hazard.
How to make High performance Emissions:
A "true" High flow converter, straight pipe.
Low/No flow EGR valve, block off plate.
Carbon canister and purge valve mod, place in large 30 Gallon can, cover, and place curbside, the city will do the rest.
PCV valve and vent tube, reroute to exhaust to dump where it belongs, on the ground. Or add breathers and let it all free.
