    mega squirt vs tuner pro

    Thoughts and opinions?

Can mega squirt do as much as tuner pro? Im not doing my tunning on tunerpro but I know you can do a lot with it. Does ms have as many things to play with?

Ive been having so much trouble with tuner pro lately giving me bad memcal errors and crap and randomly putting the car into limp mode. I think ive decited to call it quits with the program and learn to tune my self with ms this winter.

is there any tricks to mega squirt on these cars or is it pretty much match up 2 wiring diagrams?

also, what have you guys done with you wiring? I would like to find a way to use my stock harness and build the ms using a GM ecm plug. can you buy those or will i need to hack up an old ecm for it?

    thanks,
    Alex

i highly doubt TP is causing your MEMCAL errors... it's software, solid software at that, your problem sounds like it lies in your MEMCAL, PROM or burner.

and what TP "can do" is defined by how well someone can hack a GM ECM. what mask are you using?

Id would use GM, and I agree that Tuner Pro is not causing your issues.

I believe its the A1 code mask. well anyways it has something to do with part of the engine management system and ms would get rid of it. another downside with tuner pro for me is I cant figure out how to tune, if I change anything (like when the fan comes on or stupid little things like that) from a file that was changed on a different computer my car goes into limp. ms teaches you how to tune.

    idk its just a thought.

so what is the downside of ms other than the wiring and work involved in putting it in?

It is pretty much straight forward when it comes to wiring MS up, You will need a wiring diagram for your car so you know what wire does what. I used my factory wiring for the MS, I went one wire at a time cutting and soldering to MS. Left anything I did need to the factory ECM for the tranny since I have a auto.

The guys with bmw’s hack up their old ecm and mount the MS inside the case using the factory wiring and ecm plug, don’t see why you can’t with a GM.

Before buy the MS I would recommend reading and studying makes it a lot easy when it comes time to assembly and wiring it, check out megamanual.com and msextra.com

Sounds like you just want to know how to install and run the MS to me. If you can't tune a fan turn on time, I can't think of any good reason to buy something else and expect it to be any easier. Fan times is as easy as it can possibly get.

    ^what he said.

i've put a LOT of work into getting the A1 mask useable in tunerpro, and have either looked through someone else's hack or started commenting in the areas they left out, and i've gotten damn near every single scalar, flag and table defined. most of the "mystic and confusing" parts of how an ECM operates are VERY clearly explained.

im saying that it creates an error when I change something simple that I do understand. works fine untill the car is turned off and turned back on, then it goes into limp. why? I dont know, superdave said that tuner pro is just like that, gotta use the same computer for tunning.

Can you explain "the same computer for tuning" part? You flash a chip, and install it into the computer. It can't lose that when you turn the car. Are you using an ostrich? That is about the only thing I can imagine at this point.

Megasquirt has it's shortcomings when compared to an OEM PCM. I think it's better suited to cars that were electronically minimal to start with.
