Thread: 2009 LLT 3.6L DOHC VVT 405HP Engine questions

2009 LLT 3.6L DOHC VVT 405HP Engine questions

(Oops, I am sure that the 405HP will get everyones attention, I meant 305HP)

Does anyone have any experience with the new LLT 3.6l engines?

Seems to me that this drive-train will be a good candidate for Swap. up to 305hp, FWD and RWD configurations. Sure seems like a great motivation to put one in an older car.

Has anyone heard if GM is planning a crate engine version and offer a harness and ECM kit like they do for the LSx engines?

Am I barking up the wrong tree again, knowing that the new GMLAN electrical/ECM is going to be the limiting factor?

Will it be that the bell housing bolt pattern doesn't let one have enough good transmissions to bolt it up to?

It sure looks like this is going to be GM's main V6 in the future and I'de like to know other's thoughts on this engine.

The 300 horse LLT would probably not be a good choice. It is direct injected and runs at a much higher fuel pressure ratio than a port injected vehicle. You'd want to stick with the LY7 3.6L. Same engine, but with regular sequential PFI. Still makes about 265 horsepower.

I disagree with direct injection being a problem. It is where the future lies. GM has done it, Ford is doing it as well as all the other major auto manufacturers.
Direct injection is more efficient and generates more power. Having a 2-stage fuel delivery system is no big deal. It is presently more expensive of an injector but in a few years the cost will come down.

soon enough, it or a smaller version of it WILL become more common, but swapping it is going to be major surgery.

I would LOVE to get a 3.6 DI engine. If thinking about a bone stock V6 Camaro giving you just over 300 horsies to play with doesn't get you excited, you need to check to see if you have a pulse...

I am thinking about discussing with GM the possibility to make a turn-key LLT setup, much like their LSx setups. With the amount of power it puts out, I bet it would become a popular option for street rods and whatnot. We'll have to see...

    ^ THIS! AWESOME!

i can just imagine the possibilites... 300+HP stock, plus awesome fuel economy, runs on shitty 87 octane fuel...

it could be the ultimate kit car motor.

It sounds like a great idea. Especially since the 3500's were made in such a small time frame compared to other 3x00 engines.

you could always go with a 2010 camaro manual trans... only thing ive ever had to do to a DI 3.6 was timing chains. throwing a correlation code.

so the 3.6 uses timing chains instead of timing belts? let's see the LQ1 haters deny this awesomeness...
