~600hp worth of 3.1's
If you're looking to rig up something cheap, an air/oil separator could be made to work as an oil catchcan.

I have seen oil separators like the ones use on compressors plumbed into the PCV system. Kept all the oil out of the intake.

There are lots of cheap crapy ones on ebay for sale that will work IF you modify them and seal them properly. otherwise they don't hold vacuum well, and don't seperate oil/air very well at all....
There is a German made universal made one sometimes on ebay that works very well, easy to clean, empty, etc. but is NOT CHEAP, it was like $180 us
You could get a MOROSO one cheaper and still top quality....

A person has to be careful when using the air/oil seperators for compressors, you have to make sure you get one that CAN withstand higher tempertures, otherwise they are short lived....
lol, the bowl will disform and melt....

i saw a pic of a catch can , but was hard to see how it was plumb up.
any of you have good pics of what you have done and good instructions on how to do it right.
i just love to watch the wheels turn around and around

I Forgot to mention......
For any that are going to be running a vacuum pump, make sure the seal on the oil cap is good and the O-rings on the dipstick are excellent (Or just put New ones there cheap)
Also, Have the bleed of valves set to between 10"Hg-14"Hg of Vacuum, You can experiment in that range, If your sucking up a pile of oil to the catch can bleed off more pressure.
Moroso sells the bleed off valves, there# 22637 (3/4"), 22636 (3/8") and one that mounts on the line to the pump is # 22633

Dry Sump systems can run as high as 22" Hg of Vacuum, ...IF... that is your set up.
Even small amounts of Vacuum STILL have its benifits.

I know this is an old thread, but I just had a question about adding an electric pump.
I've seen the ones they sell for $300, but I was wondering if something like this would work?: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10398

I actually did run an electric pump for some time. The reason I did it is because my old motor began to wear out and the rings didn't seal so well anymore at wide open throttle and I would get some smoke out the pipes caused as a byproduct of blowby.
I ended up using an electric smog pump off an Fbody car to pull the extra gasses out of the crankcase. I used an air/oil separator inline to keep most of the oil out of the pump. I routed the output side of the pump into evac tubes in the exhaust pipes that I welded in just after the mufflers (and just before the exaust tips).
I went the extra step of modifying the bin that the ecm used. I changed it so that the economy shift light would just come on right at 4k rpm and stay on at any rpm above that speed. I used the output on the ecm for the shift light to energize a relay for the pump. So, anytime the rpm exceeded 4k rpm the pump would come on and evacuate the crankcase.
It controlled blowby well enough that I would not puff smoke at WOT.
I abandoned the setup when I swapped in the new motor. I still have it though. I can locate all the parts and if your interested we can work something out.
