Thread: Connector

    Connector

Anyone know where I could buy a connector that takes the place of the ECM, and just "breaks out" the wires(to visualize: instead of an ECM u have wires so that I can connect my own ECM, but dont cut off the connector)? I dont want to slice 'n' dice my engine wiring harness, so I can rollback in seconds if needed.

    Thanks for all the help

What ECM are you putting in it's place? You'll need one that does the trans control...

If/when I go to megasquirt, I plan to take a spare ECM, and hack it up... so that it still controls the trans, but also it has wires going to the megasquirt.

So I'll disconnect the connector traces on the ECM and solder on wires coming off of that to the MS box...

So thats what you could do ... grab another ECM, and take it apart and unsolder the connector off the PCB, then solder your wires to the pins on the connector and run that to whatever. So you just are stealing the connector off the ECM....

Check www.eficonnection.com too they may have something.

Stupid question alert: Are OBD 1 connectors the same as the ones used for OBD 1.5? If so that would have saved me a huge amount of trouble with my megasquirt install so far. I thought of using an identical PCM for that purpose but the connector was integral with the PCM's housing.

why are you talking about obd1.5, you have a 96, right? thats obd2. and i think the only obd1.5 vehicles that got a obd2 connector were the LT1s(vette/camaro/bird/impala/roadmaster). maybe the lesser models got them too but those are definitley obd1.5 with obd2 connectors

Is OBD1 94/95? or 96/97? My wiring diagrams show a huge differance between 95 to 96.

For now, im interested in just getting into the stock oem programming, to just learn and possibly remove the speed limiter.

When more money comes my way I plan on buying something like the MegaSquirt, which is very attractive in terms of money and pride of craftsmanship hehe.

Then later on when I have the MS down pat, I plan on trashing the stock intake and exhaust for a turbo system, prolly just a mild 5-10 psi setup, the car is actually my wife's and I dont want something with tooo much bang lol.

But I do want to exercise extra controls and how they influence the motor for later use, like oil squirters and extra fuel injectors, for later applications on other vehicles.

Can MS control a Tranny, eventually? They say nothing about doin that on the site. Just wondering.
