Wanting to install 3000-3500 converter in 4t60E

I am getting ready to make a selection on a torque converter and I have a 92 Z34 and I just need to know if the trans with a larger trans cooler is capable of a new torgue converter?

    Yes, but I would go with a 2700-3000 stall, NOT a 3500...

I run a custom built converter with a 2750 stall, over sized HD clutch..

Also, I have a B&M 24,000 BTU cooler, a tru-cool termostatic control valve, a in-line tanny by-pass filter, and I run Royal Purple Racing ATF Full synthetic....

I have to say I LOVE my set up... IF I had a limited slip diff put in, THEN I would have went with a 2900-3000 stall.

    3000 stall

I have a 3000 stall In my gtp lq1. when you get on it and you can feel a powerband at 3500rpm like somebody sling shotted you across the strip. I would only use it for top end runs. on highway I beat my buddies 3800 sc gtp 2000, by a bumper it was pretty close he had a couple things done (pcm, 160thermo, 3.4 pulley, cai, catback exhaust)

We have a custom built 3,000RPM converter sitting in the garage. I forgot who I got it from, he was on one of the message boards, was in a '92 Z34 then he swapped to a manual. Was definitely a "flash" converter. I forget the RPMs they have but GM made what 2 27xx stall converters, FKxx and an FAxx coded

I stuck in a $70 FAFB (tiny 1.8L Sunbird converter). The spec called for a 2780 rpm stall. (behind a 4 cyl) I figured my 3400 would take it to ~3,000-3200 and all would be well and good. After a few tuning data logs I realized it was flashing to 3700 rpm! Talk about holeshots. The car runs great with it, but I'd like to reign it in just a bit. The transmission is stock, except for shimmed accumulators, however I have a side plate leak I have to fix, so an overhaul and 3.73 gears are pending.

Now you guys have got me thinkin' again, and that usually costs me money.

I have an FD (2095 RPM) that I am pretty happy with, but maybe I need a little more.

Hell I rarely drive it anyway except to the race track.

And I have always thought I should have at least a couple of 1.95 60' times by now.

Eric, I don't know if you want much more... You should have more low end power than I do... all mine is up top, so I think I'm choking it off the line, yet the first time with a high stall I was under fueling the car so I scrapped the converter before knowing the real issue of my slow times... Who knows I may want to switch back to the 3.42 ratio after this and I get the nitrous on it... 3.69 may be too aggressive and be wheel spin central.

I'm going to let Rodney install the new chip before I do anything. More low end timing and a little less up high (he claimed he saw a couple of knocks on the Data Log he did).

I have always felt the car was a little sluggish off the line.

But I'm going to watch this thread for a bit and see how others are making out.

i have the 2095 too. though, my torque peak it about 3200 rpm. so my converter makes use of the stout mid-range torque and since it has a low stall, it's more efficient to run (less slippage). at WOT when TCC locks, the rpm only drops 300 rpm.
