New hybrid,bad idle runs good

Hey guys, been awile since I started my project, would have never had done it without the forums influence lol..

Well What I have....

3100 stock motor
Bored over 40 thou
Cam ground by comp cams
Roller lifters from a 3400

The required shorter pushrods custom cut, dont even remember from where now,Ohio ?

Gasket matched ports on heads (3100)
Uim & Lim from 3400 & T-body

Everything as far as the motor is new or has been redone, starts up and sounds good and strong, just wont damn idle for nothing.. Tried Idle relearn no go Messed with it for hours tonight and still nothing,Anything above 1k and its real responsive, and sounds good..

I have Obd 1.5 so that might be a problem,It doesnt know what to do with the cam,or extra air?? When it does try and idle its extremely low and goes from like 400~700/850ish then bounces a little more and eventually dies..

Are you another Candle Power Forums member? LOL Me and SuperDave are.

Check out the nitecore D10 or EX10... They freaking rock. 4sevens.com if you don't know. It's my new EDC.

Anywho, I'm guessing you had a 95? Did your heads have notches for the roller rockers?
What are the specs on the cam regrind?

Shorter pushrods??? Should be longer if anything.

EDC'ing a U2 Ultra

so the cam you put in is smaller than the stock cam? Comp did grind you a roller cam right, not a flat tappet? was it a re-grind or one of their models like the H260?

Need more info.....

I believe it was something like a h260,seems as if there was a sticker on the box saying something about that,And I told him that I would have roller rockers, that I had changed over.. Dunno...

I guess i'm still confused... Comp cams does not make a roller cam for our engines, did you buy a flat tappet cam kit and install the flat tappet lifters as well? or are you running the roller lifters on the flat tappet cam?

P/N from the cam box would help out alot...

Roller lifters, the ones with the little roller on the bottom? Ya my engine had those in it,I remember there being an issue of such at Lunati.. Cause I bought new lifters from Lunati and the were flat on the bottom, got home, discovered that I had rollers ..

Now the old rocker arms didn't have rollers but the new ones from the 3400 do..The cam box is over at my dads,I will go check it out tomorrow,I cant remember what I did with the original paper work from the cam atm, just moved and haven't seen em since..

He cant put a flat tappet cam in a roller block since our cams have one large bolt in the middle to hold the cam gear on.

Stock cam is .050 Duration 197/197 112 LSA Lobe Lift .273/.273 Valve Lift .436/.436

So yeah its smaller than stock... Not sure what they started with for the grind, if it was a blank then that may explain the shorter push rod length...

a OBD1.5 shouldn't have trouble learning that cam since it is smaller... and only 210 duration.... I ran a Milzy stage 1 on a OBDII but it would idle and run with stock tables, so it wasn't necessary to tune to get it to idle.

Ok let me type what is printed on the box

99-999-3

Misc 266HR /266HR-M HR112.0

Cam Specs---- INT EXH

ADV DUR: 266 266

DUR @ .050 210 210 LOBE SEP:112.0

VALVE LIFT: .427 .427

Guess this cam is a waste?

If the cam needs to be changed, can that be done without pulling the engine?
and where would I get a proper cam, that will be almost aggressive, and still pass emissions test?

99-999-3 is a "misc regrind"

did you send in your stock cam for a regrind?

No, you can't change the cam with the engine inside the car, people have done it in the past but in the end it's just faster to pull the engine back out.

Yes, that cam is a waste.. it has a little more duration than the stock cam but less lift so it's not going to perform any better than stock.

I'd suggest pulling the engine back out and going all through it again. Post up exactly what parts you have (year and other info) and what you are looking to accomplish with the engine, then we can recommend a propper camshaft and the right associated components to make it perform like you want.
