Definition of ECM/Tuning Terminology (OBDI)

I've finally got my laptop and ecm to communicate through Tunerpro RT. I've fought with freescan for what seems like forever and it would work so long as the car wasn't moving. It would disconnect within seconds of moving. Tunerpro RT is rock steady.

So, I'm happily logging data and I am considering getting the hardware to begin burning my own modified code. I of course would want to start with getting it running smoother/better before even considering anything power related.

That said I don't even know what BLM or INT are other than 128 is king. I believe BLM stands for block learn multiplier but what in the heck is that? My BLM reads 128 and INT wanders between the low 90s to mid 120s.

Ideally I want to learn how to better interpret the data I can see and then get the hardware to flash my own modified code.

I'm fully familiar with all the sensors and their functions but when I look at the raw data in millevolts and whatnot it doesn't mean much to me. I'm not a noob, I've had the car 9years and can handle all repairs/mods. I used to be an active member here but got tired of some people and it kinda turned me off to the board, looks like they're gone now anyway. To start I want to get a better quality idle and by all means I want it running as damn near perfect under part throttle as can be. I'm not even considering tuning for WOT at this time since gas prices dictate I can't afford to go WOT, besides the right course of action would be to get the driveability/efficiency aspect taken care of first.

thanks for the link, I got some reading I can do now.

I remember both of you from way back!

Got a check engine light this morning on a cold start, it disappeared within about 30 seconds or running. Did the paperclip trick and code 43... electronic spark control issue. Engine didn't miss a beat though. Now that I think of it I do recall a few times last year when the CEL would light up for less than a minute on a cold start and then go out. This week is the first I've driven the car in about 6 months since I garage it during the winter. Since the ignition module and coils seem to be working flawlessly could a faulty knock sensor cause this code? I do recall the Tunerpro picking up knock when there shouldn't be any, like a part throttle blip to 3000 rpm in neutral picked up a 10 or so knock counts.

It's possible. I had to replace mine years ago in the 91. You are on the right track with getting it running right before modding the chip.
