Need help with shift kit choices

I have a 98 4T65E stock with the exceptoin of the sprockets and chain for a 3.69 FDR. It has about 40K miles. I'd like to firm up the shifts for a nice bump over stock. I have complete control over line pressure, however, as I add more, the TCC lock becomes abrupt and jerks the car around. I do want to lower the line pressure some to help that, but not a whole lot. It this something I can do with my own parts to shim the accumulators, or should I shim and change the springs? The kits all talk about 1-2 and 2-3, but what about 3-4? Why not have that firmer too? There are several kits out there from $20-$130. The cheaper one has 2 springs and 4 different shims. The others vary springs and shims. I'd like to keep my kidneys intact, but would like that controlled snap when getting more on the gas. Any suggestions on what I really need? If you have done something like this on a 4T60/65E, let me know what you did and how it worked out. Thanks all!

I would contact ZZP (google ZZP performance) and ask them what there is available and what they would recommend. They are pretty handy with that type of trans.

Contact or search for threads by 3400-modifed. Shimming the accumulators will help a lot, and can make it shift hard enough to bark the tires but I think it won't affect your overall line pressure just how fast it shifts.

This is the most recent thread on the topic. Near the end it discusses the proper washers to use for shimming (IIRC).

Yeah you got more control and options than I do, and they don't include the 3-4 with shift kits because well its overdrive, how often do you need a "quick" shift into that, and also that accumulator is under the channel plate so they don't expect you to be changing it with the others that can be done with a pan drop.

haha true! i'll need a quick wot 3-4 shift at 104 mph--hopefully in the quarter mile somday. i also have much more transmission than i can ever use right now. lighter car, less power and way more gear than a 98 Buick LeSabre. prob with the stock line pressure, i'll have the snappy shifts we all seek. i don't bark tires even on a 1-2 wot shift, but i've heard it scratch from time to time. now, if i could just get rid of that damn gear switch fail code! i still don't know how the hell my ECM knows when the TCC is locked!! the TCU is controlling the tranny now.

What ecm and Bin file are you working with? and 3-4 at 104? What the? That seems low for 3.69 gearing... But I could be wrong, I was thinking more like 115 or something like that.

Just turn off the code and it will go away... especially if the TCU is controlling the trans now.

stock ecm and BFAH. 1-2 is 35 mph, and 2-3 is 65 mph. 104 mph is at 5100 rpm, the others are at 5200 rpm, unlike your 6000 rpm. remember, i have the MPFI with some bolt ons.

i have to find where to turn the code off. that's not in my bin or xdf files.
